Most of us believe that the bacteria in our bodies are the cause of illness or disease, but did you know that there are billions of beneficial bacteria living inside us? In fact, our microbiome - the internal ecosystem that benefits our gut health and immune system - is also made up of bacteria.
According to some researchers, more than 90 percent of all diseases can be traced back in some way to the health of the gut and the microbiome. Believe it or not, your microbiome is home to trillions of microbes, different organisms that regulate almost every function of the human body in some way.
The importance of the gut microbiome cannot be overstated: poor gut health contributes to leaky gut syndrome and autoimmune diseases, dementia, and conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and cancer, while our health, fertility and longevity also depend heavily on the balance of organisms that colonise our gut.
