Florida has banned CBDCs in the state

The State of Florida has become the first state in the United States to legally ban the use of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDCs). The news was announced on 12 May by Ron DeSantis, the state's Republican governor, on Twitter. In his tweet, he pointed out that the decision would prevent the future recognition of CBDCs by the State of Florida. It should be added that, although the move bans all CBDCs, the main aim is to prevent the introduction of the digital dollar as planned by the Biden administrationa.
Florida is not the only one fighting CBDCs
DeSantis pointed out that this was an attempt to "protect individuals from government surveillance of their finances". He is not the only such politician, Republicans in general are anti-CBDC. They believe that CBDCs give too much power to central banks and prevent unmonitored transactions. Back in March, DeSantis also called on Republican states to oppose the ESG government policy, also known as "socially responsible finance" or green finance. He said ESG threatens free market competition and puts the US economy at a disadvantage. Of course there is another line, the financial sector and the banks (obviously) see CBDCs coming soon anyway, as a result of the natural evolution of fiat money.
